“The scale of holiday hunger is huge, with over 1.5 million children receiving Free School Meals and millions more children living in poverty. It poses an urgent question. What happens to the children in your community during the thirteen weeks of the school holidays? For too many, the food runs out. But what if your church could bring the answer?” – TLG Make Lunch
In 2014 we became a registered Make Lunch kitchen. In partnering with TLG Make Lunch and local primary schools we offer a free hot and nutritious lunch to children during school holidays. Make Lunch is particularly for children who are normally eligible for free school meals during term time, however, we accept all children who come. We are also very happy for parents and younger children to stay and join in too.
Currently we run on most Mondays and Tuesdays during the holidays from 12 noon until 1.30pm. We host our Make Lunch sessions in the Gatefield Hall at The Alexander Centre.
At our Make Lunch kitchen we seek to provide a safe and fun environment with imaginative craft and plenty of games as well as tasty food. We want it to be an enjoyable time for all the family whilst also providing what we hope is a nourishing meal.
Our Make Lunch kitchen is led by Carol Jenner and run by a team of wonderful volunteers.
